Board of Directors

Leroy A. Steinke
Executive Committee

Peg White
Executive Committee

Margaret attended Georgetown University where she received her BS in Foreign Service and Master of Public Policy. She has spent the last 14 years working as the Senior Compliance Officer at the City of Chicago where she has gained significant experience in nonprofit management. Margaret decided to join the board because she identifies with the adults who are visually impaired that ITN serves. In her spare time she enjoys attending sculpture classes.

John Camper
Chair, Operations Committee

John brings 25 years of experience as a reporter, critic and editorial writer for five newspapers, including the Chicago Daily News, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chicago Tribune. John also worked as a chief speech writer at Mayor Daley’s press office for 10 years. He then spent seven years as Associate Chancellor for Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago. At the invitation of Joyce Gallagher, John joined the ITNChicago board. He is very excited about this unique and compelling transportation program for Chicago’s older adults. John has been very helpful in getting the word out about the Independent Transportation Network®®.

Cheri Heramb
Chair, Operations Committee

A lifelong Chicago resident, Heramb earned a Master’s degree in urban planning and policy and a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and political science from the University of Illinois in Chicago. As the former Acting Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, Cheri was responsible for management of Chicago’s ground transportation infrastructure and regulation of the public way. She oversaw a department of more than 1,200 employees and an annual budget of more than $500 million. Her transportation experience is a valuable asset to ITNChicago.

Russ Carlson
Treasurer

Russ Carlson attended Loyola University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois in Chicago. Upon retiring from a career as First Deputy Budget Director for the City of Chicago, Russell decided to join ITNChicago’s board. His commitment to public service and his concern for his elderly parents’ transportation needs inspired him to get involved. In his own community on Chicago’s south side, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Beverly Area Planning Association, a nonprofit community planning and development group. As busy as Russell is, he always finds time to do the things he loves, like watching baseball. Russell has seen and visited baseball games in 27 Major League parks across the nation.
